Shakespeare Sonnets: A Modern Love Story
Theater
“Gloriously entertaining” is how one critic described the playing of the young American violinist Benjamin Beilman – and he went down a storm with CBSO audiences when he performed with us back in 2019. In other words, he could have been born to play Saint-Saëns’ Third Violin Concerto, with its sultry tunes and dazzling fireworks. We’re delighted to welcome him back, in a concert conducted by another Birmingham favourite, Jonathan Bloxham – a conductor guaranteed to make romantic music ignite, whether it’s Dvorak’s riotous overture or a lovely lost gem from Augusta Holmès: a contemporary of Saint-Saëns whose music simply demands to be heard. And to finish: well, let’s just say that sometimes the Devil really does have all the best tunes…
