"The legendary multi-instrumentalist and expressive singer Lucky Peterson celebrates the legacy of an organ master with a soulful, high-energy performance at the Festival Banlieues Bleues. Captured live in 2018 with a phenomenal quartet featuring trumpeter Nicolas Folmer and guitarist Kelyn Crapp, Peterson revisits the classic sound world of Jimmy Smith’s historic Blue Note recordings from the fifties and sixties. The ensemble delivers a masterclass in blues and jazz fusion, opening with a restrained, silky rendition of Smith's famous track The Sermon. The energy ramps up quickly with a burning, fast-paced reading of Dizzy Gillespie's classic The Champ, showcasing fiery solos from every member of the band. Balancing these jazz tributes with a slow-burning version of Stevie Wonder’s My Cherie Amour and a raucous, crowd-pleasing cover of Muddy Waters’ Got My Mojo Working, Peterson demonstrates why he remained a force in the blues throughout his six-decade career."
