Conductor and music director Brett Morris offers a rare look at how he brings Matthew Bourne's "Nutcracker!" to life from the podium. He explains how he meticulously notates Bourne's choreography directly into his score, mapping every lift, turn, and transition so the orchestra and dancers stay perfectly in sync. Morris also reflects on the brilliance of Tchaikovsky's original music, including the composer's pioneering use of new instruments like the celeste, which added shimmering colors to the orchestral palette. From musical interpretation to creative collaboration, Morris shares how he approaches the score with precision and playfulness.
