Jo Clifford’s gothic adaptation of Great Expectations brings the crumbling corridors of Satis House to the Vaudeville Theatre. As a ghostly adult Pip watches his younger self, Jack Ellis’s Jaggers commands a room where time has curdled. Paula Wilcox delivers a haunting performance as Miss Havisham, frozen amidst cobwebs and a collapsing wedding cake. Director Graham McLaren brilliantly compresses thirty years of Dickens’s masterpiece into a single, atmospheric interior, transforming Pip’s journey from a story of discovery into a chilling moment of recognition.
