Mystery, intrigue, beauty, passion, murder. Caravaggio transformed the history of Western art and then vanished without a trace. Four centuries later the question still remains, who was the man behind the brush? Exhibition on Screen: Caravaggio is the most ambitious documentary ever made about this revolutionary artist. Five years in the making, this landmark film weaves together testimony from leading experts worldwide with the artist’s own voice, captured on the eve of his mysterious disappearance. His self-portraits - sometimes masked, sometimes hiding in plain sight - become the film's guiding thread, unlocking a psychological portrait as complex and contradictory as the art itself. From the backstreets of Rome to the shores of Malta, this documentary traces the full arc of Caravaggio's turbulent life through the masterpieces he left behind.
