Gil Shaham is the kind of violinist you thought they didn’t make any more – a magician, a daredevil and a poet, with a sound that’s spun from molten gold. Critics have called him ‘inimitable’, and we’re thrilled to welcome him in Arvo Pärt’s haunting Fratres, and the soaring melodies and exuberant dances of Tchaikovsky’s hugely popular Violin Concerto. A violinist this good needs a special kind of conductor, and in Ryan Bancroft we’ve got one of the most energising artists working in Britain today – bringing his very personal insight to the composer that Tchaikovsky loved above all others: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
